The Wishing Tree 2008
Sat 13 – Sun 14 September 2008 / 12pm–6pm
Sunken Garden, Bernie
Spain Gardens
A magical wishing tree has grown in Bernie Spain Gardens. No ordinary tree, this is made from materials saved from landfill, measuring over 6 metres high. Each side of the tree is built from thousands of boxes designed by London primary school children. The boxes contain their own scene or ‘mini-world', describing the children's vision for the future. By day, light filters through these transparent art works, by night it becomes a vivid block of colour.
The tree is covered in swathes of bunting; each piece of material has a message from a child describing their pledge or wish for the future of the planet.
