Sing for Water 2010
Sun 12 September 2010 / 1pm - 2pm
The Scoop at More London
Choirs from across the UK will journey to The Scoop at More London to sing in a unique, massed choir concert, raising money for WaterAid. Co-directed by Michael Harper and Roxane Smith, Sing for Water features an international repertoire of songs - from Croatia to Korea - making global connections through water.
This year looks set to be the biggest yet with over 1,000 singers registered from over 40 choirs, some of whom will travel hundreds of miles to take part.
‘Better than Christmas!' Sally Little, The Little Choir, Sing for Water at the Mayor's Thames Festival 2009
Sing for Water was initiated by composer Helen Chadwick and the Mayor's Thames Festival in 2002 to raise money for WaterAid. Sing for Water events have since proliferated across the country and have raised more than £300,000. Last year over 600 singers took part and raised over £25,000 for projects in Ghana and Malawi. This money has gone towards helping some of the world's poorest people gain access to safe, clean water, hygiene education and sanitation.

Am a regular, marvelling at the choirs each year. I notice every time that lots of people scuttle off without putting any money in the buckets. Any way of swagging them?

Hi Marion, thanks for your comment. Our licence doesn’t allow us to collect directly by buckets, WaterAid are only allowed to collect from their stand, but of course we try and encourage people to donate.

This was the first time that our choir have been represented at “Sing for Water.” Four of us participated and were totally overwhelmed by the whole occasion. Watch out, we will be back next year and hopefully will have a larger group taking part.
Many, many thanks to the whole team who made it such a memorable event. We feel it is an extremely important charity and have had very posive response from all the friends and concert goers who donated to Water Aid and helped us raise £700.
See you all next year!!!
