New European Village 2010
Sat 11 – Sun 12 September 2010 / 12 noon - 10pm
Southbank Centre, Riverside Walkway
The New European Village highlights cultures from countries with rich heritages, defined by centuries of traditions. This year, Romania, Hungary and Poland will be presenting such traditional folk crafts as embroidery, weaving, pottery, basket-weaving and wood-carving.
Textile-weaving is the most widespread craft in Romania, handed down from generation to generation, using distinctive family patterns. Some weavers and embroiderers still work with threads and yarns they produce themselves. There will be live traditional loom demonstrations over the festival weekend.

I love visiting the New European Village - it’s such a great idea! I’m a qualified master of macrame craft. Many people are not aware of what it is, but it’s very traditional in Poland. Please see www.macrame-art.com. I’d love to give workshops on how to make macrames during the Festival. I’m also a qualified teacher.
If that would be possible for the next year, please do let me know!
Best regards,
Jolanta
