Kids’ Choir is an inspirational music education project developed and run by the Mayor’s Thames Festival. Over a seven-month period, the festival works with music teachers and children from primary schools all over London to develop a mass choir of 750 voices. This choir then performs in front of Tower Bridge to thousands of people at the Mayor’s Thames Festival.

Kids’ Choir is all about introducing primary school children to the joys of singing. Learning the international repertoire of songs, and singing and performing in a group also helps the children to develop broader key skills such as self-confidence, team-work and an understanding of other cultures.

We work in schools where children often don’t have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, and whose access to music may be limited. A key aim of Kids’ Choir is to develop and strengthen the teaching of singing in primary schools, and the project leaves a real legacy by boosting the key skills and confidence of music teachers, thereby increasing musical opportunities for pupils in future years.

That’s me standing up in the audience!
I was there to support my son and his school singing with all the other school choirs. The sound the children produced was fantastic. The day was very hot and many of the children were swooning from the heat, but they soldiered on and sang beautifully (especially the Mexican tune “Chapeniecas”). It was a great event, and one both my son and I were proud to be a part of.
Sadly, he will not be participating this year, but we will definitely stop by to have a listen, before enjoying the rest of the festival!

The show today 13th was great. My daughter participated as a singer. The organisation was excellent and the collective vocals were brilliant. I was very much expressed and moved by the mood generated by the flow of voices in varying weather conditions.
