Fire alchemists Compagnie Carabosse is one of France's most important street arts groups. For this major commission they create a magical and awe-inspiring fire garden outside Tate Modern with animated fire machines, garlands of flamepots, boilers that belch flame and glorious structures laced with fire. There is music from Lo'Jo "one of the best live bands in the world now" (The Independent) and, earlier in the day, atmospheric sounds from LaRose (4pm), Yuka Okazaki (5pm) and Loredana Lanciano (6pm).

I saw the Fire Garden when it was at Bournemouth Gardens a couple of years ago.  Amazing displays, and sure to keep you warm!

Compagnie Carabosse did an excellent fire installation in Manchester a couple of years ago. I urge you all to see their work for yourselves.

The fire display outside Tate Modern at the Mayor’s Thames Festival 2009 was awesome. Also kept a lot of people warm as the temperatures dropped later in the evening. Good work guys!!

We was there last night. There was a very relaxed and laid back atmosphere down there. Once we got there we spent the rest of the night there sitting down in front of the fires.
This is one you should all check out.

The ‘Fire Garden’ was superb yesterday! very athmospheric and exciting! especially the weird and wonderful contraption, with a hugh light bulb, water gushing everywhere, plus roaring fire (never mix)? and also the penguin flying around it - all of the crowd waiting to see what was going to happen next?????  and beautiful music by Lo’Jo!

It was my first time there. It was great, new and very romantic. Very healthy ambient: families, couples, all ages, all groups. I’ll repeat next year.

Anyone knwo who the artist was who was doing the looping thing with bass clarinet, clarinet and melodica. That was lovely.

Truly as magical as promised. The whole of the Tate garden area covered with fire sculptures of many kinds. You have to see it to believe how creative the company are.Having the enigmatic French band Lojo playing on a stage lit by firelamps was a master stroke. It was like being at a WOMAD or Glastonbury festival but in the heart of London.Thank you Thames Festival for the best treat of the weekend.

WOW, magical

th atmosphere was something special. People hanging out, closing in around the fire.. I have never seen people walking inbetween the trees at the tate before, and definitely not having their evening food. the music added on a different layer, simply superb, would like to get their CD.
Walking in an area filled with fire, it felt dangerouns yet extreemely soothing and relaxing. Everyone acting with such causion.

Perfect night out

thank you

This was amazing. Lots of different stuff to look at, and a real good atmosphere. Even if the penguin was broken.

I had a free day during a business trip to London and stumbled across the Thames Festival. I had an outstanding time. The people were friendly and events amazing. But it was the Fire Garden that stands out. I’ll never forget it. It was that moving. Almost surreal, but in a great way.
I’d come back to London for the festival alone. It was that good. Thanks for letting me enjoy it with you.
