Cutters date from the early fifteenth century and were the chosen vessel used by officials like the Admiralty and Customs. They were fast and could travel long distances in relative comfort. Fixed seat cutter-rowing was reintroduced to the Thames some 20 years ago and now has an energetic following among all ages and abilities.
