• Sing for Water 2010
Sing for Water is a mass adult choir of over 800 people traditionally led by Helen Chadwick who is a renowned composer, singer and musical director. Sing for Water was initiated in 2002 by Helen Chadwick to provide a high quality concert event as part of the Thames Festival programme, while raising money and awareness for the charity WaterAid.
The mass adult choir is now an annual feature of the Mayor’s Thames Festival. In 2009, 50 choirs from all over the UK took part in the concert.
Sing for Water events have so far raised over £300,000 for WaterAid projects in India, Burkina Faso, Ghana and Malawi, bringing clean water, sanitation and hygiene education to thousands of people.
In 2010, Sing for Water will be led by Michael Harper and Roxane Smith. They have put together a programme of songs which will be recorded and available to any interested choirs to work with from mid-March. They are aiming to continue the brilliant creative tradition established by Helen, as well as bringing in some musical passions of their own, and the format will be as before, with pieces drawn from a wide range of musical traditions performed by the whole choir and animated by soloists, as well as smaller group pieces.
