The Thames Festival’s spectacular finale event is the illuminated Night Carnival on Victoria Embankment, which closes to traffic for the occasion. A vivid mix of masquerade, dance, music, illuminated sculptures and fantastic costumes, the Night Carnival crosses the Thames at Blackfriars Bridge and is followed by a breath-taking fireworks display fired from the centre of the river itself.
People come from all over London, across the country and around the world to take part in the Night Carnival. The number of participants is limited to 2,000 people and although the event is open to all a selection process does take place in order to ensure artistic quality, musical variety and a representative cultural mix.
